(In Athens Banner Herald) On Thursday, the 20-voice Lyric League returns to the stage at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Although the "Give Us Hope" concert is free, donations will be accepted on behalf of the Interfaith Hospitality Network, which assists homeless families with shelter, meals, childcare and job searches.
The concert will feature inspirational and choral music ranging from "Just a Closer Walk" to "Bridge Over Troubled Waters," and a post-concert reception in the church's fellowship hall will give Lyric League members an opportunity to sing some of their favorite works from previous events.
The Lyric League was founded in 2005 by Dell Hitchcock and her husband Nelson. Singers hail from Athens, Watkinsville, Winder, Commerce, Statham, Bishop and Elberton.

(Athens Banner Herald) Athens group sings the 'World in Eighty Minutes'
The Athens-based Lyric League, a 20-person chorus composed of singers from Clarke, Oconee, Barrow, Jackson, Elbert and Hall counties, will take music lovers on a quick-but-fun trip with "Around the World in Eighty Minutes" in early August.
The show features tunes including "Chattanooga Choo Choo," "Route 66," "Girl From Ipanema" and "Georgia State of Mind." The Lyric League, which was established in 2005, is led by Dell Hitchcock, who directed the Athens Choral Society for seven years.
"Around the World in Eighty Minutes" will be presented at 8 p.m. on Aug. 4 at the Statham Community Center and at 8 p.m. on Aug. 11 at Seney-Stovall Chapel on Milledge Avenue in Athens.
